MHS's Whatley signs with Johnson University

Former Middleton Lady Tiger Antonia Whatley, who graduated in May, will get a chance to play basketball at the college level after signing with Johnson University during a ceremony at the Middleton High School Gymnasium on Tuesday, July 28.
Whatley chose Johnson, which is located in south Knoxville, over Jackson State and Southwest Tennessee Community College.
“The campus is beautiful, and I really wanted a chance to get away from home,” Whatley said. “I also thought the school was a good fit for me.”
Whatley played all four years for Middleton, but only started in her senior season. She averaged eight points, three assists and four steals a game.
Johnson University is a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) Division 2. The head coach is Doug Karnes  and he is assisted by Clay Young. According to Young, Whatley will be playing guard and is expected to have an impact this year.
“She should definitely see some playing time this season,” Young said.
