DCS official terminated
The Department of Children’s Services (DCS) Southwest Region will soon be experiencing a change in one of their top positions after a high ranking official has been terminated.
DCS spokesperson Rob Johnson confirmed to the Bulletin-Times that Southwest Region Deputy Regional Administration Warren “Clay” Crook has been terminated from the department, effective August 3.
Crook was arrested in Lexington after allegations he fired a weapon at three juveniles. At the time of his arrest, he was the Deputy Regional Administration for the 11 county Southwest Region of DCS, which includes supervision of Hardeman County.
In a letter to Crook from Commissioner Jim Henry, dated July 24, Henry informed Crook he was terminated from DCS effective August 3, 2015 and the termination would include 10 calendar days paid notice.
The reason, according to the letter, was a combination of factors including Crook's continued delays of his court appearance, the results of an Internal Affairs (IA) investigation, and the media coverage his arrest gained.
“On March 23, 2015, you were involved in an incident that occurred in Lexington, in which you were arrested for aggravated assault. A total of four complainants (three juveniles and one adult) stated that you did display and fire a deadly weapon in the air at the intersection of your home and a public street. You stated that you felt that the case would be dismissed at your arraignment that occurred on March 31, 2015 as you were innocent of the charges. The case was not dismissed and a court date was scheduled for April 27, 2015,” reads the letter.
