More problems at the landfill
Hardeman County recently received a familiar letter in the mail from the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation. The letter, dated May 4, 2015, is a ‘Notice of Violation’ letter requesting Hardeman County Mayor Jimmy Sain to appear before a compliance review meeting to discuss the violations.
The violations, which originally began on April 10, 2013, were not brought to the attention of the county commission until The Bulletin-Times discovered the violations and brought it to the attention of a commissioner in 2014. The letter received by Sain this past week reflects the continuation of some of the same problems which existed in 2013.
The inspection sheet, signed by geologist Michael Davis, reflected violations of potential for releases of solid waste, improper storage of solid waste, inadequate vector control, unsatisfactory liter control, tires improperly handled, inadequate maintenance of leachate management
