Councilman’s wife to complete term

After serving six years on the Bolivar City Council, David Rhea passed away on April 8 of cancer. However, according to Bolivar City Mayor Barrett Stevens, just days before his death, Rhea submitted a letter to the city asking to resign from his council position due to his health and asking for his wife, Suzanne, to finish his term.
On Tuesday, April 14, Stevens presented the request before the Bolivar City Council and asked for a vote to allow Suzanne to complete her husband’s term in office. The council voted unanimously in favor of the request. Stevens said City Attorney Steve Hornsby would swear Suzanne into office later that week.
Suzanne will fill her late husband’s seat on the council until 2017, when the seat will be up for re-election.
“David loved this city and has served this city with great heart and pride,” Stevens said. “Suzanne will do just as wonderful of a job as David has and we are pleased to have her finish his term.”
