Fifty-Year Reunion Celebrated

Both state and county governments celebrated a milestone for a Hardeman County family this past week with proclamations.

In commemoration of the Crowder Family’s fiftieth reunion on August 1, Johnnie Nelson received an official proclamation from the State of Tennessee delivered by State Representative Johnny Shaw, which reads,

“WHEREAS family is the basic building block that shapes our society and the lives of the family members, filled with work and play, love and laughter, illness and health, grief and disappointment, and success and achievement, shape the course of our communities, and

WHEREAS, family reunions are joyous occasions during which tradition is honored, heritage is celebrated, and kinship is valued; they are a time for loved ones to revive the spirit of unity and seek inspiration from one another; and

WHEREAS, this year, the members of the Crowder family in Bolivar will come together once again to enjoy fellowship and fun, while also learning more about their family roots, which trace back to the 1700s, at the fiftieth reunion anniversary of the Crowder family; and

WHEREAS, over the years, Mr. Johnnie (Crowder) Nelson has had the pleasure of organizing the reunion and gathering, bringing the family together to make new, cherished memories; and

Whereas, the Hardeman County mayor has recognized August 1 as “Crowder Family Day” since 2021, a most fitting honor that recognizes the family’s lasting history; and

WHEREAS, we are pleased to recognize the members of this strong and vital family as they gather to remember their triumphs and accomplishments, recall various historical events in their family, and exchange news of current events;

NOW, THEREFORE I, Cameron Sexton, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the One Hundred Thirteenth General Assembly of the State of Tennessee, at the request of and in conjunction with Representative Johnny Shaw, do hereby proclaim that we honor the members of the Crowder family as they gather together on August 1, 2023, for their fiftieth reunion anniversary and wish them all the best as they preserve memories of their beloved ancestors, renew family connections, and revisit their wonderful shared family history.

Proclaimed in Nashville, Tennessee, on the 25th day of July 2023.”
