Run For TSU kicks off in Bolivar

Bolivar Central High School (BCHS) alumni Delvakio Brown, currently Mister Tennessee State University (TSU), brought members of the TSU Royal Court and Mister Lane University to BCHS Wednesday morning in order to kick off “Run For TSU”. The effort is expected to bring countless dollars into a scholarship fund to provide scholarships for TSU male students from single parent homes.

“You are your own destination. It is always important to know who you are and what you represent,” Brown told the students during an early morning rally. “Many people ask why start it (Run for TSU) in Bolivar. The reason is Bolivar is special to me The world is missing out on a lot of talent and intelligence that is in this room today.”

After the rally, Brown and friends set out to run back to Nashville from Bolivar, making stops along the way to speak to other schools. The scholarship marathon will take Brown and his companions 161 miles on foot in six days.

“We’re here today to mark a day that will be remembered forever,” Brown said. “Remember, on this day, Run TSU started with you and after today, the nation will know Bolivar is a place where you can be successful and you can do anything you set your mind to do.”

Brown is also providing the opportunity for a student to receive a $500 scholarship from the program. Students desiring to apply for the scholarship will only need to record a video and upload it to social media with the hashtag #RunForTSU.

“Record a video, tell us your story and what you want to do in life,” Brown told the students. One student who uploads the video with the hashtag will be chosen and after verification from the school that the student is college bound, the student will receive a $500 scholarship.
