MHS Criminal Justice Offers Law Enforcement Lectures

Sergeant Chris Wilkerson of the Bolivar Police Department visited Middleton High School on January 28, 2025, to deliver an engaging guest lecture for students enrolled in the Criminal Justice program. His presentation focused on the use and employment of SkyCop camera systems and highlighted the growing importance of leveraging technology in modern law enforcement to solve crimes.

SkyCop camera systems, which have become a vital tool for police departments across the country, are high-tech surveillance systems designed to monitor public spaces and deter criminal activity. Sergeant Wilkerson began his lecture by providing an overview of how these systems work, explaining the advanced features that make them effective. These include high-definition video recording, real-time monitoring capabilities, and integration with other law enforcement technologies, such as license plate recognition and facial recognition software.

"Technology has revolutionized the way we approach policing," Sergeant Wilkerson told the students. "SkyCop cameras are not just about catching criminals in the act—they also serve as a powerful deterrent, making communities safer and helping to prevent crime before it happens."

During the lecture, Sergeant Wilkerson shared real-world examples of how SkyCop systems have been instrumental in solving cases. He recounted incidents where the cameras provided crucial evidence that led to the identification and apprehension of suspects.

The students had the opportunity to ask questions and interact with Sergeant Wilkerson, making the lecture both educational and engaging. Many students were particularly interested in how law enforcement officers are trained to use advanced technologies like SkyCop systems and what career paths are available in the field of criminal justice technology.

Criminal Justice instructor Mr. Raymond Rice praised the lecture, stating, "Having professionals like Sergeant Wilkerson come in and share their expertise is invaluable for our students. It gives them a real-world perspective and inspires them to think about careers in criminal justice and how they can contribute to making their communities safer."
