Whiteville to study expanding fire station

The Whiteville board of Aldermen voted during the Monday, December 2, meeting, to take a look at what it would cost to expand the Whiteville Fire Station.
The move came after Fire Chief Ernie Burkeen told the board that the fire department has outgrown their present facilities, after the addition of new equipment. Burkeen also told the board that the department is in need of new turnout equipment for the firefighters. Enough equipment for at least eight firefighters is desperately needed, and it would take equipment for 20 firefighters to fully equip the department.
