
Whiteville set to pass 2015-2016 budget
The Whiteville Board of Mayor and Aldermen unanimously passed a budget, on second reading, for the 2015-2016 fiscal year, leaving the city's property tax rate at $0.8621 for the coming year, during their regular meeting on Monday, June 3.
A third and final vote must be held before the budget is finalized, and will be done during a special called meeting on Monday, June 29, at 7 p.m.
In other board action, Whiteville Mayor James Bellar announced to the board the city's water and waste water department, under the direction of Louis Coleman, won a regional contest sponsored by the Tennessee Association of Utility Districts (TAUD) as the best tasting water in West Tennessee.
“This is a huge honor for our city,” Bellar said.
Other participating utilities were: Adamsville Utilities, Collierville Public Utility, First Utility District of Tipton County, Germantown Water System, Jackson Energy Authority, Lexington Utilities, Michie Water Systems, Munford Utilities, and Poplar Grove Utility District. Drinking water sampler were judged for clarity, bouquet, and taste.
