Whiteville Police to add 'In God We Trust' on squad cars

Whiteville Police Chief Steven Stanley told the Whiteville Mayor and Board of Aldermen during their January meeting on Monday, Jan. 5, that he would begin placing decals with the US Motto “In God We Trust” on all of the Whiteville police cars as early as this week.
Whiteville joins the Hardeman County Sheriff’s Department, along with several other cities and counties across the state and country to add the motto to their cars.
Whiteville Mayor James Bellar told board members that the town would be applying for a FY2016 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to help build a detention basin on Cross Street to contain and slowly release water when it rains in an effort to help control flooding on the street .
The mayor also told the board that is in the process of hiring a new city attorney, and hopes to have one by the February board meeting.
