Turkey Banquet Awards One, Remembers Another

The Tennessee Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation held their annual banquet February 11, at the Hardeman County Fairgrounds. When the National Wild Turkey Federation was founded in 1973, there were about 1.5 million wild turkeys in North America. Those numbers have now risen to a historic high of almost seven million turkeys after decades of dedicated work from volunteers, professional staff and committed partners. After such significant wild turkey numbers have been increased, the NWTF began a new 10-year initiative to: Save the Habitat. Save the Hunt. They’re identifying four million acres of critical upland habitat that provide the most positive impact conservation for all wildlife. An additional part of 10-year initiative is to create 1.5 million hunters. Hunters pay for over 80 percent of wildlife conservation through taxes on guns, ammunitions, and more.
