Ruritan? It’s a fish fry

No, Ruritan doesn’t mean “fish fry”. Actually it’s a combination of two Latin words. “Ruri” which means open country and “Tan” meaning small town. When combined they are interpreted as pertaining to rural or small town life. The compound word, Ruritan, was the name a group of citizens chose when they formed a civic organization on May 21, 1928 in Holland, Virginia.
