Residents in the Saulsbury area cautioned about home security
At 11 p.m. on a Sunday night. Three masked and armed men enter the home of Curtis and Marjorie Hines on Saulsbury Road. Holding a pistol to Curtis’ head, the trio shouts, “Where’s the money? Where’s the money?”
The robbers entered the home. They didn’t break in. They didn’t have to since for the 68 years the Hines family has occupied the home, they never felt it necessary to lock their door.
Curtis is 93 years old. Marjorie is 96. They’ve been married 72 years. They are widely known and highly respected in the community. “These are people who literally would give you the shirts off their backs,” said Beth Davis, their daughter. “If someone needed something, it certainly wouldn’t be necessary to point a gun at them to get it! All they’d have to do is ask.”
This trait was apparent as Marjorie informed the thugs they didn’t have a lot of money on hand, pointed out the places within their home where she generally kept small amounts of cash, and then directed Curtis to hand over his wallet. In spite of their stupidity, the thieves were smart enough to realize she was being truthful and departed with very little to show for their efforts.
The case is being investigated by the Sheriff’s Department. Meantime, the house has been fortified. New locks that actually have keys, an alarm system, outdoor spotlights, and other security measures are now in place to prevent a reoccurrence. “We have around the clock security in place,” said granddaughter, Laura Hines, a former police officer who is currently pursuing a PhD at Mississippi State.
“Our family along with Crime Stoppers has posted a reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the robbers,” said Davis.
