Preparing a Workforce for the Future

Hardeman County’s unemployment rate rose from 6.1% in March of 2016 to 6.5% in March of 2017. But just because there’s a rise in unemployment numbers, doesn’t mean that there aren’t jobs to be found within our county. All that is needed is the desire to work, have the ability to show up on time, and be able to meet the needs of employers in our region.
Mayor Jimmy Sain hosted a workforce development training workshop at the municipal center for job seekers to provide them with needed skills such as; building a resume, emphasizing the value of workplace learning, and to address the hiring demands of employers from the onset. The goal is to place workers in jobs where there are career development and advancement opportunities. Workforce development is based on the common-sense concept that a better educated workforce is more likely to create success for their employer. Mayor Sain’s goal was to teach that everyone starts somewhere. “No one starts out at supervisor pay. You have to work your way up, no matter where you start out. It just takes a little time and effort.”
