Middleton passes minor property tax increase
The Middleton Board of Aldermen has unanimously passed a motion to increase property taxes in the city from .9370 to .99 per $100 of assessed value. This increase returns the tax to its rate of three years ago.
The board unanimously approved a motion to leave the solid waste rate at its current level. A motion for no increase in gas system operation and maintenance rates passed with no opposition.
A first reading of ordinance 2015-10 was passed. This ordinance raises the city’s minimum water rates by ten percent for customers in and outside corporate limits. Ordinance 2015-11 adds funding of lift station operation and maintenance to the city budget. This ordinance also passed its first reading.
The city has begun to compile a list of properties which are in violation of the recently passed ordinance governing property maintenance within the city. At this time, 18 properties are scheduled for inspection by Lynn Webb, Middleton’s Code Enforcement Officer.
