Middleton Library summer reading program comes to an end
The Middleton Library would like to thank the community, parents, kids, presenters, volunteers and all who made the 2015 Summer Reading Program Every Hero Has a Story a great success. Each Friday in June, the library hosted events for the children of Middleton and surrounding areas.
The first week, we had Bob Tarter from NHECM (Natural History Education Company of the Mid-South) presenting his wildlife program, Amazing Aviators. Among Bob's exhibits were "Elliot", the Eurasian eagle owl, a hawk, a fruit bat, a flying squirrel and an Amazon parrot.
The next week, we had D.A.R.E. officer and Olympic trainer Arthur Avant from Senatobia, Mississippi, who encouraged our kids that each of them have a hero inside them. We had the opportunity to see a real silver Olympic medal.
Following that, the Touch a Truck event at the Middleton Community Center allowed us to showcase our community heroes, such as the Middleton Fire and Police Departments and the Hardeman County Forestry Service.
Finally, we ended our program with our party/awards ceremony. Carson Robinson was our Top Reader for this year and Kilani Savelio was our runner-up for the most time spent reading over the month of June. Congratulations to each who finished the program--you are our library's true heroes. Keep Reading!
