Hardeman County Rescue Squad holds fundraiser

The Hardeman County Rescue Squad held their largest fundraiser of the year on Saturday, April 4, at the Walmart parking lot, selling pre-cooked Boston Butts, as well as baked goods, just in time for Easter.
According to Rescue Squad Captain Jerry Avent, this has become the largest fundraiser for the Rescue Squad, which relies mostly on fundraisers and donations from the public for its operation.
“These fundraisers and donations are how we get most of the money that we need to do what we do,” Avent said.
The Hardeman County Commission does allocate a small amount of funds to the rescue squad every year.
There are currently about 25 members on the squad, with four more in training. All members are volunteers, and have to pay to be on the squad, as well as go through several hours of training annually.
“We are driven by a willingness to help people,” Avent said.
Avent, who is in his first year as captain of the squad, has been a member for five years this time around, and was preciously a member for 15 years. He replaced former captain, Dujuana Naylor, who stepped down last November to further her education.
