Grand Valley Lakes Ladies Club holds meeting

From greeting new residents, to providing emergency kits, to planning an ice cream social, the Grand Valley Ladies Club had a very busy meeting and that was before hearing a guest speaker.
“For a long time we greeted new residents with a visit and a gift basket. To be honest, this approach wasn’t really successful,” said Lona Coffee, President. “I remember when we first moved here, we needed some maintenance and repair done to our home but we didn’t have a clue who to call. In the Memphis area there’s a telephone book full of choices. Not so in relatively rural Hardeman County.”  With that observation in mind, the club has decided to assemble a Grand Valley Lakes version of “Angie’s List”. The list would contain the names and phone numbers of local handymen, plumbers, roofers,  propane dealers, internet providers, etc. as well as Ladies Club information. The list will be mailed to all new residents.
The club has emergency personal care packets available for residents who have encountered a disaster such as a fire. The kits contain items such as tooth paste, toothbrushes, soap, razors, and other necessary personal care products. “I realized that I had some of the needed items at home that I could never use. An example is several new toothbrushes I had received from my dentist following check-ups and cleaning. I thought it would be great to donate these and the club wouldn’t have to buy them,” said Coffee. As it turns out, several other members also had items that could be added to the packets at no cost to the club.
