Grand Valley Ladies Club gears up for the holidays

The Grand Valley Lakes Ladies Club held their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 3. Following a devotion and prayer, led by Ann Castleman, committee chairpersons brought members up to date on various club activities.
Members were informed of the death of Louise Watkin’s brother. The club has sent her a card in his memory. Lona Coffee, president, reported the club had made lap blankets, neck rests, and cards for Caris Healthcare. The hospice service presents these as gifts to their patients. “We try to supply them with things their patients can use. Sometimes when a patient is having a really bad time, the gift of something as simple as a handmade card makes a big difference in their day,” she said.
Helen Nixon reported on a meeting of the Ussery Cemetery committee. Joe Sherman, Todd Yuhas, Bill Stone, and Nixon met at the cemetery Sunday, November 1. They discussed the layout of the cemetery lots. They agreed on the importance of a member of the committee being always available to help a family in need. Every member’s phone number has been given to the POA office and the security gate. A future work day is being planned. Joe Sherman will visit Shackelford Funeral home to gain information regarding the opening and closing of grave sites.
