Grand Junction to purchase new firefighter equipment

Grand Junction Fire Chief Mike Bryan and Assistant Chief Tommy Breeden met with Mayor Curtis Lane to discuss the best way to use money the city received from a Forestry Grant. Their decision was to invest in four sets of complete turnout gear. “The age and condition of this equipment is something the ISO inspector takes into account during an inspection,” said Lane. “Our current equipment is in pretty good condition but is several years old and needs to be replaced.” The mayor told the board that the plan would be to purchase four sets of gear each year until all have been replaced. The board concurred.
Lane informed the board the repairs to the roof of the proposed library building at the old school have been completed. Applications for grants to complete needed repairs and updating are being prepared. “We’re taking this project one day at a time. The building is dry and empty. Currently, any additional work will be completed by volunteer labor,” he said.
The board approved a contract to apply tarps to the old gym and school building as a temporary roof repair. The board agreed the “things” left behind when the school closed should be inventoried. Anything not usable will be thrown away.
