Grand Junction acquires additional police vehicle

Following a motion passed at the last mayor/board meeting, Chief Larry Hunt has negotiated the purchase of another vehicle for the Grand Junction Police Department. The vehicle was purchased from the Piperton Police Department and will be placed in service following completion of registration and addition of decals.
The weather sirens in Grand Junction, LaGrange, and Moscow are all controlled through a main center located in Moscow. There have been some problems with a repeater station in LaGrange. These are now resolved. Going forward, the three municipalities are seeking a qualified contractor able to perform maintenance and repairs in a timely manner.
Several street lights have been reported as burned out. Mayor Curtis Lane asked the night shift police officers be made aware of this and requested they tape the poles needing service.
Mayor Lane reported the brush pile at the city’s lagoon had reached a point whereby additional land needs to be cleared to accommodate further collection. Vice Mayor James Holder is looking into borrowing a bulldozer from a neighboring municipality.
“We need to do something quickly. I don’t want to reach the point where we have to stop bringing any more brush into the lagoon area,” said Lane.
Library Committee Chairperson Courtney Breeden reported the library board is in process of writing new by-laws for the facility. Their finished product will be brought to the city board for approval.
