Former BBT Editor Passes Away

Former Bolivar Bulletin Times editor Anne Ingle will be laid to rest in Bolivar on October 15.

. . .

From the Other Side of the Desk

A good friend of the Bolivar Bulletin Times passed away recently. Anne Ingle, who was the Editor for more than 20 years, passed away in Georgia. I met Anne in 2010, when The County Journal began in Hardeman County. She was working for the Hardeman County Schools. She was a great help to me. We had long conversations about the topics of the day and the newspaper business in general. She told me a few rules to live/work/try by:

1. Most people who come to see you will either be happy, sad, or mad. Try to rejoice with the happy, comfort the sad, and see what you can do about the mad. Just don’t join them.

2. The community is attached to this paper. Be attached to it.

3. You are not going to make everyone happy, even when you try your hardest. But no matter what, you can always be kind.

I confided in her when I felt I was wronged once and she reiterated: “Don’t sweat it. Be kind. Be fair.” We’ve tried. Not to perfection, but it is the standard we try to meet.  Anne was a good friend, and even though we never talked about it, a mentor to me when I needed an encouraging word. And when a kick in the pants was the needed remedy, too. I started missing her a long time ago, when she moved away, but this week has reminded me just how much.
