Bolivar offers reward in connection with vandalism

The Bolivar City Council has offered a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for damaging or destroying several concrete picnic tables at the new Pleasant Run Creek Park, located behind and to the left of the Optimist Club Ballpark near the Old Hwy 64 bridge, which is expected to open later this year.
According to Bolivar Mayor Barrett Stevens, the damage was discovered on Saturday, August 1, during a cleanup of the area organized by Riley Seaton as a community service project for his Eagle Scout Badge. The tables, which were donated by Western Mental Health Institute, have been there at least a year, and are currently on the old bridge just above where they will eventually be placed. Each table is worth more than $800 each, making the total damages well over $2,000.
“It is dismaying to have this much work done to get this park ready for the public only to have it damaged like that,” Stevens said.
