Bolivar council discusses audit

The Bolivar City Council met in a special work session on Thursday, March 25, at City Hall with Joey Geter of Cowart Reese Sargent C.P.A.s to discuss the 2015 Bolivar audit, which was prepared by Geter.
According to the 79 page report, there were only three findings in this year's audit, all of them stemming from a program that allows the city to receive free surplus property from the Federal Department of Defense, and all problems have either been rectified or are in the process of being rectified.
“This is a great program, and the city should continue using it. This was just a matter of learning how to account for the property now in our possession,” Geter said.
The first finding involved the proper inventory of the surplus property. While there was a list of the property, the list did not include a detailed description of the property, location of the property, or who had custody of the property. The city has now completed a proper inventory of the property, and is in the process of purchasing a bar code system to keep track of the surplus property as well as all city property. According to Bolivar Mayor Barrett Stevens, the city is still researching prices for a system.
