Bolivar Armory welcomes new commanding NCO

The Bolivar National Guard Armory, at 11185 Hwy. 64, officially welcomed Staff Sergeant Tiffany Eichenberger to her new position as Readiness NCO, on September 21.
Eichenberger comes to Bolivar from Athens Tn., where she has been stationed since 2013. She is on full time active duty, and has been in the army for 10 years, and will be in Bolivar for at least two years.
Her responsibilities include day to day operation of the armory, insuring the readiness of the soldiers by making sure they are trained, paid, and making sure that promotions and awards go through properly. She also communicates directly with and advises the unit commander, Capt. Kendal, and First Sergeant McFarland, who are both in the reserves.
“My goal is to get the guard more involved in the community,” Eichenberger said. “My first priority is to get this place cleaned up from top to bottom”.
She is hoping to hold an open house sometime next spring as a way to interact with the community.
In addition to housing the 47 members of DET. 1 251st MP Co., who train there once a month, the armory is also used for several community events throughout the year, as well as an entertainment venue and for private events. The building is also used to distribute commodities, and for elections.
“This is a federal building. It belongs to the community. For the most part a government or nonprofit event will not be charged rent,” Eichenberger said. She went on to say the building would be available as a shelter in the event of bad weather.
Eichenberger is married to William Eichenberger, who is also a full time active duty staff sergeant, still stationed at Athens, TN.
“We were both promoted to Staff Sergeant on the same day,” Eichenberger said.
The couple has three children, all under the age of 7. Because of their respective assignments, they do not get to spend much time together,
“Unfortunately, that is just part of being in the Army,” Eichenberger said.
