2016 March county ballot finalized

The 2016 presidential campaign is in full swing, but in addition to president, Hardeman County voters will also select statewide offices, as well as two county offices and three Hardeman County Board of Education positions in the coming year.
The March 1, 2016 presidential primary will also feature two county races, with neither incumbent candidate facing an opponent. Josh Pulse is running for Assessor of Property, while Connie Young is running for the District 4 County Position, Young took her son David Young’s place on the commission in March after her son’s tragic death in February. David had been elected in August 2014, after taking over for his father, Steve Young.
Young will also run unopposed in the county general election in Aug. 2016, while Pulse will face a familiar opponent, John Vickers of Middleton, who is running as an independent.
Vickers ran as a Republican in 2012, and was originally going to run as a Democrat in 2016, but changed his mind and decided to run as an independent.
“I am running as an independent because I think county offices should be nonpartisan,” Vickers said.
Vickers went on to say he feels he has a better chance at winning in 2016 because there are only two people running."
“I feel that the county is ready for another change and I decided to throw my hat in the ring again,” Vickers said.
His opponent feels that the county is happy with the way he has handled the job thus far.
“I am looking forward to a positive campaign. The Assessors office is a very complex office dealing with over 21,000 parcels and over 1 billion dollars in appraised value. We are directly responsible for over 8 million dollars in property tax revenue for our county. This is no easy task and should not be taken lightly. I have the knowledge and the experience to do the job. I humbly ask for your vote and support so we can continue to ensure the people of Hardeman County receive a fair and equitable assessment of their property,” Pulse said.
The August 4, 2016 election will also feature three Hardeman County School Board races, as well as statewide primaries. Board races on the ballot include District 2 Position 2 currently held by Beverly Bodiford, District 3 Position 1 currently held by Jerry Crisp and District  3 Position 3 currently held by Terry King. These are all nonpartisan offices, and potential candidates will be able to pick up paperwork early next year.
The National Election will take place on Tuesday, November 8, 2016.
