Whiteville to honor Tommy Naylor for saving life

Whiteville Police Chief Steven Stanley announced that he is honoring Officer Tommy Naylor for saving a young lady’s life during an incident at the Super 8 Motel on Hwy 64 in Whiteville on Friday, September 18, in which a mother stabbed her daughter with a pair of scissors, puncturing her lungs.
“If it had not been for Tommy’s quick thinking and medic training in the army, this young lady probably would not have survived," Stanley said.
Naylor will be receiving a plaque from the city and the police department. He was congratulated and thanked by Whiteville Mayor James Bellar, and Police Commissioner Richard Hamilton.
The announcement was made during the Monday, October 5 Whiteville Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
In other action, the Board unanimously passed a Solar Farm Zoning Ordinance on first reading. A public hearing will be held before the second reading of the ordinance at the November board meeting.
The board also approved a request to allow the solid waste department to install a valve in the sewer line for the Simon Chapel Church that is currently under construction. There will be no cost to the city for this work.
