Water rate increases

Given two options regarding the increase of water rates, the Bolivar City Council opted to choose raising water rates once as opposed to the potential of being faced with another water rate increase in the next year or two.
“The 31 percent increase is going to give us basically what we need and puts us in the black and is still lower than what the state requirement is going to be to the best of my knowledge,” Councilman Todd Lowe said.
The council was faced with a 21 percent increase or a 31 percent increase.  However, Lowe explained to the council the 21 percent increase would place the city in a position to raise rates again.
“It’s going to be a quick turnaround before you are going to have to have another pretty big increase,” Lowe said.
