Solid Waste Director fired over continued violations

The continued issues of state law violations at the Hardeman County landfill, including garbage being left out without cover on Saturday (June 5) has culminated with the termination of the Hardeman County Solid Waste Director Gene Mills.
According to public records, Mills was terminated on Monday, June 8, for “failure to maintain the Hardeman County Landfill with compliance to the State of Tennessee Landfill regulations.”
Mills has received four disciplinary write-ups, including one demotion, from Hardeman County Mayor Jimmy Sain and/or the Solid Waste Committee since September 1, 2014, regarding infractions and violations that persisted at the landfill.
Mills was demoted from Hardeman County Solid Waste and Landfill Director to Landfill Supervisor by the Hardeman County Solid Waste Committee on May 26, 2015 for violations that continued and persisted. This resulted in a $10,000 decrease in his salary from $48,000 to $38,000 annually.
