Bolivar City Mayor Barrett Stevens honored the late Councilman David Rhea with a memorial proclamation during the July Bolivar City Council meeting. The proclamation was read in front of the council and those in attendance and then a copy was presented to Rhea’s wife, Suzanne, and family members.

Rhea honored by City of Bolivar

“It’s something that’s a pleasure to do but a little bit of a heartbreak to do as well when you’re talking about your friend, buddy, family member,” Barrett Stevens, Bolivar City Mayor, said, as he began the presentation of the City of Bolivar’s Proclamation for the years of service David Rhea had given to the council. The proclamation was read at the Bolivar City Council meeting on Tuesday, July 14, and presented to representatives of Rhea’s family, including his wife, Suzanne.
Stevens said Rhea’s love for his family and for the citizens of Bolivar is still felt with his absence.
“He is someone we all miss and he served this city faithfully. He loved his family, he loved the people he served, and he always came to the council meetings with the people of the city in mind. He served with great integrity and pride. His absence will be felt for a long time on this council and in this city,” Stevens said.
Rhea passed away on April 8, after a long battle with cancer. He first took his seat on the council in 2009 and was re-elected in 2013. Rhea ran unopposed in both elections. The council unanimously voted for his wife to take his seat and complete the remainder of his term.
