Multicultural museum holds documentary screenings

The Multicultural Museum of Hardeman County, in conjunction with the Hardeman County Commission for Black History, presented a special showing of excerpts of four documentaries from the Created Equal: America’s Civil Rights Struggle film series on Sunday, November 8, at the museum, 500 W. Market St. in Bolivar.
Portions of The Abolitionists, Slavery by Another Name, Freedom Riders, and The Loving Story, were presented along with a discussion about the films featuring Dr. Charles McKinney, Associate Professor of History and Director of African Studies at Rhodes College in Memphis.
After the showing, there was a question and answer session with Dr. McKinney.
Three of the films will be shown in their entirety during the coming months, starting with Slavery by Another Name, which will be shown on Sunday, December 13, at 3 p.m. Dr. McKinney will return for this event and discuss the Emancipation Proclamation and equality.
Other films being shown are Freedom Riders, on Sunday March 13, 2016, and The Loving Story, on Sunday, April 10, 2016.
