Middleton ladies fall short

The Middleton Lady Tigers' dreams of a second straight Class A State Title and undefeated season came to an abrupt end on Friday, March 11 in Murfreesboro with a 53-49 loss to Gibson County, after winning their opening round against Harriman 62-45 on Thursday.
The ladies looked impressive in their opening round match up against Harriman on Thursday, jumping out to an early lead and never looking back. Middleton led by seven points after the first quarter, 15 points at the break and 18 points after three quarters. Harriman managed to get one point back in the final quarter, but it was nowhere enough as the Lady Tigers rolled to an easy 11 point 62-45 win.
Sequoya Warren and Dakedra Mason led the way for Middleton with 18 points each. Chelsey Perry added 11 points and 15 rebounds.
The win set the stage for Friday's match up between the Number 1 ranked Lady Tigers and Number 2 Gibson County for a shot at the gold ball. Middleton had the upper hand for most of three quarters, leading by three points after the first quarter and six points at halftime Gibson County made a run late in the third quarter and cut Bolivar's lead to four points going in to the final stanza then out scored Bolivar by eight points in the fourth quarter and walked away with a four point 53-49 win.
Dakedra Mason led the effort with 23 points including four 3-pointers. Cherelle Jones and Chelsey Perry added 11 points each and Perry grabbed 12 rebounds for her second double-double of the tournament.
Middleton Head Coach James Burkley was unavailable for comment this week.
The Middleton ladies ended the season with a 32-1 record, and their win streak came to an end with 67 wins.
