Hornsby denied grant for new water tower
Hornsby Mayor Mack Carter Jr. reported to the Hornsby Board of Aldermen during their Tuesday, November 3 meeting, the 2015 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) the town had applied for in order to replace the town’s aging water tower, was denied.
According to the report read by Carter, the grant was denied because of poor ranking, 37 of 38 projects for water system improvements. In addition, the mayor said there was little chance the grant would be approved in 2016, which leaves the option of repairing the current tank at an approximate cost of $80,000 to $100,000. This would consist of draining the tank, sandblasting the tank inside and out, coating the inside of the tank, and painting the outside, which would require taking the tank out of commission for about one month.
