High speed chase ends with several police cars damaged
Whiteville Police Chief Steven Stanley, along with one of his officers, Hardeman County Sheriff John Doolen, and several of his deputies engaged in a high speed chase in Whiteville, at about 11:15 p.m., on Thursday, Dec. 31, that resulted in several damaged patrol cars from both Whiteville, and the sheriff’s office.
According to the police report, Stanley was monitoring traffic on Hwy 64 at the Exxon Station, when he spotted a 2014 Chrysler 200 traveling eastbound on Hwy 64 at a high rate of speed. He attempted to pull the driver, later identified as Darlene Thornton, 54, of Fort Worth Texas, but she refused to stop. Whiteville officer Randy Warren joined in on the pursuit, and Thornton attempted to ram Warren’s vehicle, then drove around in a circle on Hwy. 64, nearly striking Stanley’s vehicle before fleeing officers, heading west on East Main St. at speeds of up to 70 miles per hour in a 30 miles per hour zone, almost losing control and hitting the Whiteville Post Office.
