
Hardeman County Hee Haw, 35 years and going strong
In 1979, Bunny Orr, President of the Hardeman County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, along with Bertha Vaughn and Don Shackelford, were looking for a way to raise money for cancer research, when Judd Smalley told them about another county in Tennessee doing a show based on the popular TV show Hee Haw, and an institution was started.
According to co-founder Vaughn, the first Hee Haw show was in 1980, and she has been involved in one way or another ever since.
“ I have appeared in all but six shows,” Vaughn said.
Only a handful of the original cast members are still in the show, but in many cases there have been several generations of performers in the show over the years.”
"There are four generations of my family in the show now,” Vaughn said. “I have enjoyed doing this show more than anything else, and I plan on doing it as long as I can.
