Hardeman County Community Calendar

  • State Primary, Hardeman County General Election and Whiteville City Election will be held on Thursday, August 4 in Hardeman County.  Polls will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Pick up the July 28 edition of the BBT for polling locations.   • Bolivar Central High School will have their Freshman Orientation for incoming freshman and parents on Thursday, August 4 at 6 p.m. in the auditorium
  • The New School Year will soon begin for many students in Hardeman County and now is the time to make sure they receive the required immunizations for school attendance. In Tennessee, children enrolling in school for the first time and all children going into the seventh grade must provide schools with a state immunization certificate before classes start.   • Middleton Elementary School will host a Meet the Teacher Night on Thursday, August 4 from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. The teachers and staff look forward to meeting their new students and welcoming former students back for a sensational school year filled with new and inspiring adventures.
  • Music on the Square will see Johnny Collier and the Misbehaviators returning to the stage this Friday at 8 p.m. at the Bolivar Downtown Amphitheatre where there’s always concessions and a great family atmosphere.
  • The Bolivar Farmers Market at 110 Lafayette St. is open on Saturdays and Tuesdays, Thursdays beginning at 7 a.m. for the remainder of the growing season. Be there early for the best selection of plants, produce, baked goods, crafts, beef and pork.  
  • The Lee Ola Roberts Library on Main Street in Whiteville  will feature a Mother-Daughter-Grandmother Tea at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 6.
  • Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church at 40 Zinnia Lane, Grand Junction, TN, will host there 130th Church Anniversary Homecoming Service, Sunday, August 7, 2016 at 3 p.m. Inviting former members of Hopewell and Churches in the community to come and worship the Lord with us as we celebrate 130 years. Guest speaker Dr. William Bass and the Smith Chapel M.B. Church Family of Whiteville, TN. The public is invited.
  • Bolivar General Hospital is hosting an Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group on Tuesday, August 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the cafeteria and will continue on the second Tuesday of each month. For more details call Sara Skinner at 659-0216.
  • Ebenezer Cemetery on Windwood Farms Road, south of Middleton will have a meeting to elect a cemetery committee on Saturday, August 13. Please make plans to attend and vote on committee, bring lawn chairs. Questions please call Larry or Rose Russell 731-376-2121.
  • Learn How to Take Care of Your Diabetes on Wednesdays at the Bolivar Senior Center through September 14 from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  These classes are free and you do not have to be diabetic to attend. Call Peggy Adelman at 658-2887 for more information.
  • During National Health Center Week the Hardeman County Community Health Center will celebrate their Women’s Health & Prenatal Services on Tuesday, August 9 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. All are invited to attend and receive education and chances to win a door prize and enjoy light refreshments.  Stop by the 629 Nuckolls Rd in Bolivar.
  • The TN Department of Labor and Workforce Development’s mobile Career Coach will be at Grand Junction Library on Wednesday, August 10th, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Career Coach Staff will be on-site helping people to create resumes and register with Jobs4TN.gov where there are nearly 200,000 jobs available.  For more information, call Nicholas Bishop at 615-741-0286
  • The HRAYS Soccer League registration will be held on Tuesday, August 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Middleton Community Center. There will also be a soccer clinic held on Saturday, August 20, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Middleton Industrial Park. Shin guards are required!   • Dixie Hills Baptist Church at 75 Dixie Hill Road in Bolivar will host a Baby Shower with a Focus on Information Sharing for Breastfeeding and the Prenatal Community presented by the HC Health Department and the HC Community Health Center on Thursday, August 18 with registration beginning at 12:15 p.m. For more information call 658-5291.
  • The Hardeman County Extension Office is now accepting applications for the fall Master Gardener Course. All classes will be held at the Hardeman County Extension office 200 E. Market St., Suite A, in Bolivar on Thursday evenings from 6 to 9 p.m. beginning August 18 and ending November 10. Applications are available at the Hardeman County Extension office and local libraries. Completed applications and payment must be received by August 10, 2016. The fee for the class is $125 per person or $150 for a couple. Please remit payment with your signed application to Lee Sammons Extension Agent Hardeman County Extension 200 E Market Street, P. O.   • An Ol’ Fashioned Picnic will be held on the lawn of Hardeman County Court Square on Thursday, August 27 beginning at 4:00 p.m. Bring your lawn chairs as HC residents, pastors and ministers and local officials come together to surround the community in Love and Prayer. Food and drinks are provided.
  • The Hardeman County Arts Council (HCAC) brings Dearly Departed to the stage on Friday and Saturday, September 9 and 10 at 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday, September 11 at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 and will go on sale at the Arts Council to HCAC members on Monday, August 29 and to the general public on Monday, September 6.   • Hardeman Adoptable Animals Shelter needs volunteers to socialize with these wonderful animals while they are waiting for their permanent and forever homes.  Any and all help is appreciated including but not limited to playing with, walking and cleaning food/water bowls and habitats.   Non committal volunteer hours are daily from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The shelter is located within the Hardeman County Landfill on Walton Road west of Bolivar.
