Lynden Helmuth was the auctioneer for the Mennonite Fall Fest this year.

Fall Fest a family tradition

People from all over the county flocked to Whiteville on Saturday, October 3, for the 18th annual Mennonite Fall Festival
The festival is sponsored by the Whiteville Mennonite School and their main fundraiser for the year.
According to Ernie Knepp, the coordinator of this year’s festival, the school relies heavily on the festival for their yearly funding.
“The festival does not quite fund the school, but it really helps,” Knepp said.
In addition to plenty of food, the highlight of the festival every year is the auction, which includes homemade crafts, woodworking, home décor and handmade quilts. One of the quilts this year went for more than $2,000. This year’s auctioneer was Lynden Helmuth, a member of the Mennonite community.
Food includes fresh doughnuts, an all you can eat breakfast, barbecue, grilled chicken, homemade pies and homemade ice cream.
We are very grateful to local community,” Knepp said. “They have been very supportive of us over the years.”
