County wants solid waste fees on tax bill

It took two votes to get it done, but Hardeman County Commissioners approved a resolution, during their January county commission meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 19, asking the Tennessee State Legislature to approve a private act allowing the county to add the solid waste fee to the annual property tax bill.
According to Hardeman County Mayor Jimmy Sain, the county has had a hard time collecting the solid waste fees, which are currently $108 per year and payable in four quarterly installments of $27, and he is hoping this move will help to get more of the fees collected. The property tax collection rate is close to 100 percent.
