Charges dismissed on Woods

After 18 months, the Madison County Circuit Court has dismissed the two counts of theft against Bolivar resident Brenda Woods. Woods was charged with two counts of theft from Macy’s in December 2013.
The charges were dismissed on Thursday, July 2.
“Basically the message I heard from my attorney’s office was the prosecutor had looked over the evidence and said they didn’t have a case. I had told my attorney to subpoena the videotapes and when we asked for the videotapes they said they did not have the videotapes,” Woods said.
During the 18 month process of fighting the theft charges, Woods went through two different judges and three attorneys.
“I had two attorneys that I fired. I found the right attorney in Coleman Garrett,” Woods said. “I’ve learned something in dealing with attorneys. You basically have to tell them what to do. I guess I learned that from the movie A Time To Kill. He had to keep telling his attorney ‘you have to do this’. If he had not done that, I think he would have lost that case. I kept going back to that movie. You have to really be involved.”
