Bolivar City Judge Steve Hornsby congratulates Councilman Todd Lowe.

Bolivar City Council Members take oath

Two of the four Bolivar City Council members elected in the Bolivar city election held on Thursday, May 21, Todd Lowe, and political newcomer Quantissia Hamer, were sworn in by Bolivar City Judge Steve Hornsby during a specially called council meeting at noon on Wednesday, July 1 at the Bolivar Council Chambers.
The other council members elected, Tracy Byrum, and Larry McKinnie did not attend and will be sworn in at a later date.
Hamer, the only new face on the council, defeated James Futrell 86-80 in a tight race. This was her first foray into politics.
“I decided to run because I wanted to get more younger black people involved in politics,” Hamer said.
Among the items on her agenda include getting rid of the crime problem in east Bolivar, and bringing in more activities for kids, especially in the summertime.
