The 2015 Smokin’ Downtown Barbecue Cook-Off, which was held anFriday, October 30, and Saturday, October 31 in downtown Bolivar, was a complete success.
“This event just keeps getting better and better, “organizer Chris Bell said.
According to Bell, a total of 34 teams competed in this year’s event, 22 from out of town, including participants from Kentucky, Mississippi, and east Tennessee. Teams competed for a total of $5,500 in prize money in three categories, chicken, ribs and pork, with a payout in the top five places in each category. There was also a grand champion named, as well as a Hardeman County champion named.
This year’s grand champion was PWA BBQ of Spring Hill, Tennessee. They also took first place in chicken and pork. The reserve Grand Champion was Big B’s BBQ. First place in Ribs went to Uncle Pookie and the Piglets. The Hardeman County Championship went to Bad Boar Smokers. Second place in Hardeman County went to Smokey Bottom Boys, and third place went to Hillbilly Smokers.
