Burkley wins BCAT Coach of the Year award

Middleton Lady Tigers Head Coach James Burkley was awarded the 2015 Basketball Coaches Association of Tennessee (BCAT) Girls Single A Basketball Coach of the year on Friday September 25, during the annual BCAT Basketball Coaches Clinic in Nashville.
According to Burkley, this is the fifth year the award has been handed out, and is one of eight awards given every year, one for each of the classes, A, AA, and AAA, as well as private schools, in both boys and girls.
I am Blessed that I was honored in this way, and that I have a great group of coaches and players around me,” Burkley said. “I would also like to thank all of the coaches across the state that voted for me this year."
Burkley came to Middleton in 2002 as the middle school head coach and high school girls head coach. He also started the volleyball program in Middleton and was the first head coach. As middle school coach, he won five county championships and had a record of 64-18. As head coach for the girls, Burkley has a record of 284-122, including seven district championships, two regional championships, three sub state championships, two final four appearances, and one state title. He was named Jackson Sun  Coach of the year twice, district coach of the year 10 times, and All West Tennessee All Star Coach three times.
In 2009, Burkley took over the reins to the Middleton High  School Boys, where he has a record  of 141-41.
