Music on the Square for Friday, May 18 at the Bolivar Downtown Amphitheatre; Chase Antwine at 7 and Amber McCain at 8. As always, these concerts are free of charge. Come out for family friendly entertainment. Concessions will be available.
The Hardeman County Arts Council will present their Tribute Variety Show on May 18-20 at the Arts Center. Showtimes are Friday and Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and a matinée on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are on sale. Box office hours are Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 1580 W. The Bolivar Farmers Market is open each Tuesday and Saturday, rain or shine from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with the best selection of beef, plants, produce, baked goods, catfish and more. Bolivar Cub Scout Pack 92, and Boy Scout Troop will have their annual Blue & Gold Banquet and Court of Honor on Saturday, May 19, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the FUMC in Bolivar as the scouts are recognized and learn about upcoming activities, and a brief Friends of Scouting presentation from Shiloh District Executive Bruce Scarberry.
West Memorial Baptist Church will celebrate Homecoming on Sunday, May 20, with Sunday school at 9:30, worship service at 10:30 featuring singing by Bro. Chickasaw State Park will unveil their new walk bridge on Wednesday, May 23 at 10 a.m. Along with the new bridge, camp tent pads have been enlarged, 2 bathhouses have been replaced, and improvements to cabins have been made.
There will be a benefit for LaWanda Vickers at Lone Oaks Farm on May 26 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. with bbq, hamburgers, hot dogs, a motorcycle ride, airplane rides, horse and buggy rides, train rides, bounce houses, hay rides, face painting, drawings, live music with 10-O-C at noon, a corn hole tournament, silent & live auction and much more. The Grand Junction Public Library offers GED (HiSET) Prep Classes and pretests. The Grand Junction Library is now an RSVP Volunteer Station. Hardeman County will receive credit for the volunteer hours to be used in case of disaster where FEMA must be called in and will offset the dollar amount the county would be responsible for paying. Students who are currently using the TN Promise Scholarship are hereby reminded of the deadlines to submit community service hours for each term. Deadlines are as follows: Fall semester- July 1st, Spring semester- December 1st, Summer session- April 1st, this includes TCAT students. The Bolivar Police Dept. is partnering with the TN Highway Safety Office for its fifth annual Seatbelts are for Everyone campaign through August 1. In TN, a disproportionate percentage of unrestrained fatalities tend to occur between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 5:59 a.m., and fifty percent of Tennessee’s fatalities are unbelted.
