UPDATE: Officials release name of SUV driver killed Thursday

One Hardeman County man is dead after the Ford Explorer he was driving collided this afternoon at approximately 3:22 p.m. along the 1400 block of Highway 100 in Toone.

A Mid-South Supply truck, loaded with gravel, hit the Explorer as it crossed lanes. Upon collision, authorities said the truck pushed the SUV down a ravine, where the two vehicles came to a stop.

"He just veered over into my lane and I tried to stop but couldn't," said the driver of the Mid-South Supply truck, who wished to not be identified by name. The driver of the SUV was killed during the accident. According to the authorites, the family has been notified but the name of the driver has not be publically released at this time.

The accident caused the portion of Highway 100 to be shut down for over four hours this afternoon, and remains closed as of this time.

UPDATE: Officials have released the name of the individual killed in yesterday afternoon's car accident on Highway 100. Charles Burgess, of Whiteville, was driving the SUV when his SUV drifted over into the on-coming lane and was hit by the gravel truck.
