State Fire Marshal’s office celebrates milestone anniversary with service

This past year, the State Fire Marshal’s Office celebrated its hundredth anniversary of operation within the fire service community of Tennessee. In honor of this milestone, the office coordinated a state-wide “smoke alarm canvass”. Called “100 for 100”, the program arranged for ten different fire departments to install 100 smoke alarms on the same day. Successful canvasses were completed this past October and November. The third installment of the event was held Tuesday, Jan. 26. Bolivar was one of the eight cities chosen to participate in this phase.
The Bolivar Fire Department was responsible for organizing the local event. This included recruiting volunteers, selecting specific “at risk” neighborhoods, scheduling times, and installing the alarms.
Under the direction of Fire Chief Lynn Price, the department put together lists of residents who requested the alarms. They recruited local volunteers from the Red Cross to assist in the installations. On Jan. 26, Bolivar Firemen and the volunteers met and, using the prepared lists of addresses, installed more than 100 units.
