Pinson Mounds to Host Archeofest

The 34th Annual Archeofest at Pinson Mounds State Archeological Park in Pinson is September 17-18. Pinson Mounds covers more than 1,200 acres and contains at least 15 Native American Mounds. Archaeological evidence suggests the mounds were both burial and ceremonial in purpose. Pinson Mounds is a national historic landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
With a spotlight on archaeology, visitors can take in a variety of presentations and demonstrations ranging from flint knapping, pottery and basketry to wildlife programs and hayride tours of the site. Arts and Crafts, animal handler classes, hiking trails, and the 4,500 square foot Mound replica museum give adults and kids each something to explore.  Live musical performances by the Native American dancing group The Aztec Dancers along with traditional and contemporary Native American drumming, dancing, and storytelling with John Lone Eagle. Food vendors will be on hand and there are an abundance of picnic facilities that are shaded and each equipped with their own table and grill.
