Hardeman County Mayor Jimmy Sain and Bolivar Mayor Barrett Stevens gathered with members of the Business and Professional Women (BPW) on Tuesday, April 14, to recognize Equal Pay Day and declare Equal Pay Day in Hardeman County. Sain said the day was chosen nationwide because on a national level, April 14 is how long a woman has to work full time in order to equal the pay a man receives.

Hardeman County Proclamation Signings

Hardeman County Mayor Jimmy Sain made two proclamations last week. The first proclamation was during a meeting at Los Portales, in partnership with Bolivar Mayor Barrett Stevens, to declare Equal Pay Day in Hardeman County.
April 14 was declared Equal Pay Day in Hardeman County in efforts to continue raising awareness of the need to have equality in the pay for women as opposed to men. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, women working full time make approximately 78 percent of what men earn. In additional efforts to raise awareness of the pay gap, local restaurants Los Portales, Joe’s Restaurant, and Maria’s Pizza and Wings provided a 22 percent discount on meals for women who asked for the discount on April 14.
