Mary Powell with Mayor Sain. Powell has been the Hardeman County Trustee since 1989, and has won re-election seven times.

County Nearing Three Million in Bank

County Clerk Jerry Armstrong’s Wednesday morning walk across the courthouse lawn to Hardeman County Trustee Mary Powell’s office got the county a bit closer to their goal: three million dollars in the fund balance.
“The budget committee set a goal of three million in the fund balance by next June 30,” said Hardeman County Mayor Sain. “I’m not sure anyone believes us.”
It’s a far cry from the 2014 figures when the county was forced to borrow $600,000 just to make payroll.
Sain is quick to spread the credit to his departments, with special thanks to Hardeman County Trustee Mary Powell and Chancery Clerk Janice Bodiford.
“Ms. Powell is a mayor’s dream,” said Sain. “Through hard work and diligence she has collections near 98% for most years. Very few trustees in Tennessee can claim that kind of success. She cares about the county, the funding, and collections.”
