Need some extra money for the upcoming holidays? The Salvation Army is looking for Christmas Red Kettle Bell Ringers for Hardeman County. They will pay minimum wage and are in critical need of volunteer and paid bell ringers. Please email Major Joe May at JacksonTN@uss.salvationarmy.org

The Hardeman County Rescue Squad is having their smoked Thanksgiving Turkey and Ham Fundraiser. $35 each and can be picked up at Walmart on Thanksgiving Morning between 8:30 – 11 a.m. Call any Rescue Squad Member of call 609-8382 to order your turkey or ham.

The Bolivar Farmers Market at 110 Lafayette St. will have their final day of sale of the season on Saturday, October 29.

Hardeman County Community Health Center in Bolivar announces Health Insurance Marketplace open enrollment from November 1 through January 31, 2017.  If you enroll by December 15, your new plan can start as early as January 1.  For more information, contact Robert Davis, Jr., or Davina Crum at 658-3388.

The Middleton Library began their Great Reading Challenge in September for adult readers. Another drawing will be held at the end of October. Judgment House 2016 presented by Bethlehem #1 MBC is a ten scene walk through drama, which effectively presents the gospel through a relevant and gripping story. Guests are led through a series of rooms that tell a story about people whose lives have been cut short unexpected through some sort of tragedy.  Judgment House takes approximately one hour with groups entering every 15 minutes. The Lucy Black Haunted House at 65 Lucy Black Road behind Bolivar Ford is open every Friday and Saturday night in October at 7 p.m. Admission is $5. 100% of proceeds benefit Relay for Life and their fight against cancer.

The Hardeman County APTA and Epic Haunted Tours present History, Legends, Ghosts and More this final weekend with a golf cart tour of Polk Cemetery and paranormal investigation. There will be a unique adventure with over 20 different character guides on Friday and Saturday night. Tickets are $25/night or $35/weekend and are on sale at hardemancountyapta.org or call 731-658-7912 or be in the old Wheeler Furniture parking lot at 6:30 and/or 8:15 p.m., to join the tour.

tnAchieves is currently recruiting volunteers to serve as mentors for the TN Promise Class of 2017. We need to recruit 9,000 mentors to meet the projected student demand. Go to www.tnachieves.org/mentor/apply to sign up.

The National Weather Service will offer a Storm Spotters class at the Bolivar Municipal Center on October 27 at 6:30 p.m.

First Baptist Church 525 N. Main St. Middleton will have their Autumn Fest on Saturday, October 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be games, prizes, pictures, door prizes, food and more.  All are welcome to this free event.

Mt. Gilead Baptist Church at 6185 Rowsey School Rd in Bethel Springs will be hosting the Crossing Jordan Quartet in concert on Sunday, October 30 at 5 p.m.  Crossing Jordan is a traditional Southern Gospel Quartet from Covington, TN.  There is no charge for the concert, but a freewill love offering will be received to help the quartet with their expenses. 

Mt. Gilead will be having their 29th Annual Veterans Day Service on Sunday, November 6, at 10 a.m., and are inviting all Veterans and active duty personnel in the area to come and celebrate this day.  Dr. Joe Jernigan, Associate Pastor at Bellevue Baptist Church, Memphis, will be the guest speaker. Middleton United Methodist Church is having an inside Trick or Treat in their fellowship hall on October 31 from 5- 8 p.m., at 429 N. Main St., in Middleton.

The National Bird Dog Museum will have their second annual Christmas Open House in the gift shop at the museum in Grand Junction on Thursday, November 3 from 1– 7 p.m.  There will be refreshments, door prizes and good times with great gift ideas for Christmas. The Thirty One Purse vendors will be returning this year.

The Whiteville Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, November 5.

The Hornsby Fall Festival will be held on Saturday, November 5 beginning at Noon. The auction will be at 5 p.m.

The Toone Harvest Festival has been postponed until Saturday, November 12.

Brints Chapel Baptist Church in Middleton will have a Ladies Devotion and Men’s Prayer Meeting on November 7 at 7 p.m. Ladies, please bring finger foods, snacks, desserts and drinks. All churches are invited.

The Battle of the County-wide Church Choirs and chili cook-off will be held on November 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the parking lot of the Bolivar Lions Club Field on Hwy 64 W.  There is a $50 choir entry fee and to register call at 228-3029 and leave your church name, contact name and phone number. Save $10 by registering before November 1.  All proceeds will go to the Hardeman County Recovery Court. Concessions will be available.

The American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary will present The Annual Veteran’s Day program at the Veterans Wall in Middleton at 11 a.m. on Veterans Day on Friday, November 11.

The Middleton Country Craft Fair will be held on November 11 from Noon to 4 p.m. and Saturday, November 12 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. with multiple vendors, food, pictures with Santa on Saturday. 429 N. Main St. Call Mary at 609-9929 for more information.

The UT Extension Office is having a Holly Jolly Christmas Party on Friday, November 11 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with festive crafts and gifts that you can take home. The 5K for Christ will be held at 100 Church Street in Hornsby on Saturday, November 12 at 9 a.m. $25 if registered by November 6, $25 day of face and ages 9 and under are $15. Race day registration and packet pick up is from 8:00-8:45 before the race. Proceeds will benefit the Hope House, The Recovery Court of Hardeman County and Love Thy Neighbor Ministries. A Benefit for Hardeman County Deputy Lynn Shields will be held on November 12 beginning at 11 a.m. at the Family Entertainment Center in Whiteville with live music, drawings, bounce house, train rides and face painting for the kids, chili cook-off with prizes, motorcycle and poker run, food and much more.

A Benefit for Jacob Dowty will be held on November 12 beginning at 3 p.m. and the Lawton Community Center in Selmer. Southern Bootleggers will have a $10 Pork Loin Dinner, the corn hole tournament begins at 3 p.m. and there will be live music.  All proceeds benefit Jacob Dowty.

Become A Certified Recovery Congregation. The State of TN Department of Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services has launched a mission partnering with faith based communities in Bolivar to reach out to those struggling with addictions and connecting them to vital substance abuse services. Hardeman Adoptable Animals Shelter needs volunteers to socialize with these wonderful animals while they are waiting for their permanent and forever homes.  Any and all help is appreciated including but not limited to playing with, walking and cleaning food/water bowls and habitats. The shelter is full to capacity with dogs that need permanent homes.  Non committal volunteer hours are daily from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pedigree dog food, blankets and money donations are always welcome. The shelter is located within the Hardeman County Landfill on Walton Road west of Bolivar. New Bethel Baptist Church Services will begin each Sunday with Sunday school at 10a.m. followed by worship service at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Wednesdays nights at 6:30 p.m. with Brother Robert Buse preaching. Everyone is welcome and invited to attend.
